THE UPSIDE

Why it can be a great choice

  • Provides 52.2 g protein and 15.8 g fibre per 100 g.

  • Provides 248 micrograms folate, 370 mg magnesium, 760 mg phosphorus and 1,290 mg potassium per 100 g.
  • Its dry powdered form can add peanut flavour and protein to recipes without the same fat content as whole peanuts or peanut butter.

THE DOWNSIDE

What to keep in mind

  • The values are for 100 g of dry flour; a tablespoon or a prepared drink uses much less, so direct portion comparisons with spreads can mislead.
  • Contains 180 mg sodium, equivalent to about 0.450 g salt per 100 g.
  • Peanut remains a major food allergen after defatting and milling and can cause severe reactions.
  • Removing most of the oil changes the flour’s composition, texture and cooking behaviour compared with whole peanuts.
  • Fine powder can disperse and contaminate utensils or surfaces easily, which matters in households or kitchens managing peanut allergy.
  • Degree of defatting, roasting, fineness and added ingredients vary by product, so the current package label supersedes this generic profile.
